150.00

7th - 8th October 2017
10am - 6pm
Tutor: Rebecca E Smith of Smith and Gibb

A two day, weekend course learning the magic of enamelling! The class will look at traditional techniques such as Sgraffito, Plique a jour and Cloisonné. Students will learn how to prepare the metal, the different types of enamel, the use of the kiln, stencilling and stamping, graphite with enamel as well as other effective, simple techniques. We will also look at how to apply findings to an enamelled design i.e earring post, jump rings and brooch backs. By the end of course you will have a beautiful piece of enamelled jewellery and the skills to create more!

Graduating in 2014 with a first class honours degree, Rebecca E Smith is continuing her love of designing and making jewellery under the name Smith & Gibb at her workshop in Glasgow.

She creates sentimental one off jewellery pieces capturing original handwriting, old photographs and vintage colours through the traditional process of enamelling.

Day 1: Skills tutorials
Becky will take you through some of the techniques used within enamelling and will run through live demonstrations whilst showing you examples of others working with enamel.

Day 2: Design & Make
You will have the chance to design and make finished pieces using the techniques that Becky have demonstrated and Becky will be on hand to offer advice and lend her skills.

Some basic metal work skills are essential, soldering, sawing and riveting knowledge is desired. However, the small class will allow Becky to work her ay through everyone's designs and assist.

All tools, materials and base metal will be provided. If you chose to use silver you will be required to purchase your own for as little as couple of pounds. Feel free to bring your own tools and enamel if you wish. You can pick up what you need from;
