She graduated in 2011 with 1st class honours in Jewellery & Metal Design from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, University of Dundee and was this year winner of The New Designers Goldsmiths Company Award for Jewellery. • Why do we do it?

A few days ago someone asked me why I was doing jewellery,
and I couldn’t reply with a straight answer.

It came to my mind again yesterday while I was having a
shower, and I thought it was quite bad of me, not being able to say why I do
    what I do.

At that moment I said it was because I love making and I want
to bring filigree back and innovate (which is quite true). But is this a good
answer? Can you actually explain why you do what you love to do?!

When you love someone you can’t explain why you love that
person, because is something you just feel inside.

I think this is the reason…jewellery has been my passion since
I was young, about 9, but at that moment I didn’t know it....

Filipa Oliveira launched her new collection Golden Honey in June 2012. An 18ct gold vermeil, emerald and coral collection inspired by filigree, a traditional jewellery technique from her home country, Portugal. She uses this ancient and unique technique in an innovative way to lend detail and heritage to her delicate work. This historical element allows both the past and present to be encompassed within each piece of jewellery and is evocative of different times and cultures.

Filipa is originally from Portugal having moved to the UK in 2008....
