Vanilla Ink are inviting people who are seeking to get a head start within their education to join us in our brand new Summer School.

Situated at the fully-equipped Vanilla Ink Jewellery School and Studios, each course will be a week-long intensive look at methods, techniques and skills designed to increase your ability and confidence.

The Summer Schools consists of two separate weeks (each sold separately and you don’t need to do both, you can just do 1); introduction and revision.

Introduction will cater for the absolute novice, completely new to the jewellery world! Within this class you will learn about the tools required for jewellery making, as well as being shown how to use them in a proper and safe manner. You’ll be briefed on the techniques that are needed to get you through the beginnings of jewellery making. You can then chose to make jewellery in silver (at an extra cost and can be bought during the class, we can guide you through this process).

Course Content

  • Accustom yourself to the jeweller’s bench and the vast array of tools required in the trade.

  • Learn how to sit properly at the bench to reduce future damage to your body and be shown how to address the benchpeg accurately.

  • Observe basic handling of tools, learning how to use them as you go along.

  • Be taught the ethos of the craft.

  • Put learned techniques into practice, equipping you with the elementary skills needed to start your jewellery making journey.

By attending this full week, you will come away with a good knowledge of jewellery manufacture that will give you a head start. The class is limited to 8 students per class to ensure key concepts are covered and to give maximum one-to-one tuition. You will be shown all the necessary methods to harness the techniques, however please be aware that a certain amount of continual repetition will be required post class to hone the skills. Practice makes perfect! We can give you advise on the tools needs to continue your learning.

All tools, equipment and base metal materials are included in the class. The workshop will be closed for lunch between 1-2pm.

**please note classes may be cancelled due to lack of attendees. In the unlikely event, you will be fully refunded and notified the day before the class is scheduled. If you can not attend the class but someone you know can take your place then please let us know ahead of the class, we can only refund the class if there is at least 3 days notice**
