I am a process led silversmith. My work celebrates the traditional Danish concept known as "Hygge", a word with no English translation which embodies feelings such as cosiness, intimacy and contentment. For me it would be the indescribable feeling of sitting inside on a rainy day with a warm drink or gathering around a campfire in the early evening with a few friends.
The intentions with my work is to make vessels that bring comfort to the owner, where they can create their own meaning to the Danish word. Within my work I use fine silver and soft threads to bring warmth to what is seen as a cold metal. I use traditional techniques such as blocking, raising and planishing which allows me to achieve the vessel shapes I have designed.
I feel the traditional processes required for silversmithing are just as important as the end result. With technology becoming used more frequently within in craft, traditional techniques can sometimes be forgotten with the excitement of new possibilities becoming available with technologies. With this I feel that digital technologies should to be used as an aid to the traditional craft.
