coming September 2018
CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE FOR SILVERSMITHING & JEWELLERY
We are so thrilled to announce that we will be opening a second Vanilla Ink in Banff, Aberdeenshire. With thanks to funding from Aberdeenshire Council and North Aberdeenshire LEADER group, we will be opening a centre of excellence for Silversmithing & Jewellery.
For a period of 200 years up until the 1880's, 24 different Silversmiths based themselves in Banff, it had it's own assay mark and Banff silver has become a collectable and worth significant amounts of money.
Due to open on the 21st & 22nd September 2018 we have launched our first project - The Smiddy Tool Amnesty, a nationwide call out for your old tools, duplicates or unwanted metalworking, woodworking, silversmith, jewellery & blacksmithing. Have a rake through your garage, shed or attic and think about donating to our Smiddy where we will give them a new lease of life and allow different communities to access them.
Locally we are incredibly excited to hear your stories, even if you don't have any tools to part with, your stories are vital to understanding the heritage of Banff and it's Silverwear. Names of the Silversmiths are still around today in your town, so ask the question; 'Does my family have anything to do with Silversmithing?'
We are working with a local photographer to capture the stories and images and this will be our first exhibition to open The Smiddy.
Stories can be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org or feel free to post them to Vanilla Ink Jewellery School, Mercat House, 19 Argyle Court, The Hidden Lane, 1103 Argyle Street, Glasgow, G3 8ND.
Any local tools will be collected by someone in our team, tools further afield we can arrange delivery. We need your tools and stories by the 10th of September so please get in touch.
