the vi tutors

We have assembled the greatest team of tutors ever to roam this planet, all directed and overseen by our Lead Tutor, Annelies! These guys are wonderful, talented humans who we are fiercely loyal to and hold in very high esteem. They’re all awesome! Let’s take the time to meet them all.

Iona anderson

Iona Anderson is a graduate of Dundee University and has been successfully “jeweller-ing” for some time now. When she is not in her workshop making tactile rings and other such delights, she is obviously somewhere else.

Although famous for her jewellery skills, Iona is perhaps better known as the best selling author of her autobiography, “Memoirs of a Walloper”. She is currently training to become an art teacher, something which suits our Iona perfectly and we know she will excel at.

Iona possesses absolutely top class patter, which she uses to ensure all of her students leave her classes both educated and entertained!

lyndsay hamilton fairley

Lyndsay first discovered jewellery making at Falmouth University on an Art Foundation before making the move to study Jewellery and Silversmithing at The Glasgow School of Art in 2014. Since graduating, she has completed several other technical jewellery courses, as well as the 2020 INKer Programme, after which she decided to stay [the fool!]

As well as enjoying teaching some of the fab courses in Bridgeton, she is now also a Resident in the Shared Studio. Her own work centres around the ephemeral beauty of the Scottish coastline, specialising in enamelling and mixed metal work to create unique pieces, based on her own drawings of the Scottish coast.

sarah fleming

Sarah first fell in love with jewellery making while on a summer school course at the GSA. After finding the courage to quit her job as a chemist, she embarked on a portfolio course at St Martin’s to gain entry to the GSA silversmithing and jewellery course. Now a trained Art & Design teacher, she runs a painting and drawing class for kids and adults in her local community. Her main passion however is making jewellery. She still feels a buzz when making and designing pieces.

Sarah predominantly works in silver where she adds splashes of colour to her work in the form of Keum Boo or enamel. A regular at Vanilla Ink over the years, she has worked hard to improve her technical skills and says the studio is her happy place and sanctuary.

claire mclean

This is a tale of a jewellery journey that began at City of Glasgow College, which then led to the road and miles to Dundee to further study Jewellery and Metalwork at DJCAD.

Claire’s work is influenced by architectural structures such as train stations, rooftops and building exteriors, where beauty can be found rather than on our phone screens! She loves adding colour to her work, previously using the technique of powder coating but has moved on to using enamel and the odd stone setting here and there.

Claire has previously won ‘Best Use of Colour’ from Cookson Gold, enabling her to further explore her love of all things bright and beautiful!

Giulia Furnari

Giulia’s journey in the path of jewellery begin in 2019 when she took part to a beginners evening class at Vanilla Ink. After this experience she knew she wanted to spend her life surrounded by fire, precious metals and sparkly stones to create meaningful pieces for people to wear! She then went on to study Jewellery Design and Making at City of Glasgow College and graduated in 2021.

After being one of our 2022 Jewellers in Residence, she is now taking part in the 2023 INKubator Programme. She is very interested in combining traditional techniques of jewellery making with new technologies for jewellery production like 3D printing.
